HISTORY
Custom Protect Ear Inc.'s Significant Events
Founded in 1976, Custom Protect Ear Inc. is the largest custom fit hearing protection supplier in North America. Based in British Columbia, CPE has technicians stationed across the United States and Canada.
The market for CPE's dB Blockers™ is growing rapidly. CPE supplies hearing protection for more that 4,500 companies in Canada, United States, England, Australia, New Zealand and Saudi Arabia. Some highlights of Custom Protect Ear Inc.'s history are:
| 2005 | Funded a University of Washington study at the Weyerhaeuser Corporation to determine effectiveness of various HPD choices in the work place. |
| 2004 | Funded a Virginia Tech study to determine the reliability of M.I.R.E. measures compared to R.E.A.T. measures for dB Blocker™ hearing protection, utilizing the FlashTest™ post fit hearing protector attenuation measurement system. |
| 2004 | CPE developed FlashTest™ to quickly and accurately measure the attenuation of a dB Blocker™ hearing protector after fitting and implementation. |
| 2004 | Recertified all dB Blocker™ hearing protectors under ANSI S3.19-1974 (Method A) and ANSI S12.6-1997 (Method B). This recertification showed changes in the dB Blocker™ resulted in an average 10% increase in attenuation (Method A). The tests were conducted by Dr. Kevin Michael (Michael & Associates) and posted on the NIOSH Hearing Protector Compendium website. |
| 2003 | CPE successfully met the audit requirements and was certified under ISO 9001:2000. |
| 2002 | Jeffrey Goldberg purchased CPE from the Baskerville family. |
| 2000 | CPE was officially certified as an ISO 9002 company. |
| 1993 | CPE introduced the dB Blocker™ line of custom hearing protectors and communication ear pieces. With substantially increased attenuation, these models had noise reduction ratings (NRR) from 23 to 28 depending on which model is chosen. |
| 1989 | In 1989 CPE invented the vented Noise Braker™ hearing protector certified with an NRR of 18. |
| 1989 | Orval Baskerville purchased Custom Protect Ear. |
| 1984 | CPE provided protectors to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Football Club for the Grey Cup Game to compensate for the extreme noise in BC Place Stadium. |
| 1982 | CPE secured a license from a Portland Company to directly manufacture hearing protectors in Canada. |
| 1976 | Canadian Custom Protect Ear Inc. (CPE) was founded in 1976 to sell custom hearing protectors. |
